In 2010, Claire Vos designed the Patterns table linen for Functionals, a Dutch (web)shop selling a collection of furniture and home goods made exclusively by innovative designers. Vos’s design is based on a Scottish plaid that dissolves and reassembles over the expanse of the fabric.

Project

The design was preceded by an exploration of the innate qualities of damask. The plaid on the tablecloth and the napkins is identical but was scaled to fit the napkins. The density of small and large patterns made it important to keep the tension in the weave uniform throughout. This black version is a sample. The table linen was eventually produced in cream and light grey.
