Materials cotton linen

In 2013 ontwierp Studio Minale-Maeda tafelgoed voor het label by TextielMuseum, inspired by the Art Nouveau patterns by decorative artist Chris Lebeau. Shifts in the design give the illusion that the pattern is moving, giving the dining table a rich, dynamic look.

Project

Design studio Minale-Maeda began its research by looking for designed textiles in the museum collection: from the figurative to the abstract. The designers were fascinated by textile’s narrative elements, from the texture, colours and patterns, to the weaving and printing techniques. Together with the table linen they designed a fabric for a round bench, the ‘Zoeptrope Bench’, with patterns that start to ‘move’ when the bench rotates. The same principle was applied to the table linen, recalling Chris Lebeau’s ‘Narcis’ design from 1908.

Process
