Hortus Nocturnalis

Nienke Sybrandy

2012 throw
Materials cotton merinowool

Intrigued by Selenicereus grandiflorus, a cactus species that blooms rarely and for only a few hours at night, Nienke Sybrandy designed Hortus Nocturnalis. In this representation, the temporality and volatility of the night-blooming plant is preserved. The back is a mirror image of the front, so the design can be used/displayed on either side. Sybrandy submitted the design for the Auping Style Contest in 2012.
