In 2017, SILO in collaboration with Mecanoo architects made a tapestry in the TextielLab for the renovated Hoogheemraadschap Delfland office building. There are 1,030,978 ‘water droplets’ incorporated into the 50m2 tapestry.
The tapestry depicts a rolling watery landscape that incorporates the key activities of the Hoogheemraadschap Delfland and is inspired by the many antique waterway maps the water board owns. Water purification plants, greenhouses and the drainage provided by canals, rivers and ditches can also be found in the imposing work.
Using 3D animation software, SILO created a virtual waterways world through which the water droplets flow. The various water droplets were then divided into different colours and linked to different yarns on a computer. The selection of yarns, in combination with the weave, create the rolling effect.
