The indigo used to dye denim is not very colourfast, making denim fabric ideal for engraving photos. The photo, in this case an image of the TextielMuseum, is loaded into the laser machine as a negative. By passing the laser across the material like a printer, different shades of blue are created. The lighter areas indicate where the laser has burned the dark blue denim.
