Traditional scenes from the past are linked to (everyday) situations in the present in these napkins inspired by Delft Blue tiles, designed by Miriam van der Lubbe of Studio Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe for TextielMuseum.
The set designed in 2003 includes six woven napkins with themes: Windmills, Multiculti, Joint, Scater, Rotterdam and Gun. The series of 2009 builds on the earlier ‘Prints 2003’ (‘Prenten anno 2003’). Naast het pistool krijgt het spelende kind nu ook de besturing van een Wii-spelcomputer en is naast de Erasmusbrug een woontoren verrezen aan de Rotterdamse skyline. Deze tweede laag van afbeeldingen is geborduurd, gelaserd of gefoliedrukt. By repeatedly updating the napkins with new layers, an image emerges of our current urge to innovate.
Ontwerpbureau Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe wordt geleid door Niels van Eijk (1970) en Miriam van der Lubbe (1972), both graduates from the Design Academy. Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe are at home in many fields of design. Their own work is featured in museums and galleries across the globe, but Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe also design exhibitions for others as well as spatial concepts for public buildings. Zo werkten ze onder andere voor het Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, MOOOI en het Nationaal Archief.
