After working with glass and tricot, artist Lieven de Boeck wondered how he could combine these two materials in one work. Even though the materials’ physical properties are completely different, their production process has one major similarity: an uncontrollability that elicits an unforeseen and surprising result. The title – ‘Le Désir’ – refers to the artist's desire to get lost in the complexity of creating a work.
‘Le Désir’ experiments with the possible desires around a work of art. Several statements about desire were handwritten and incorporated in a tricot pattern. For almost a year, De Boeck, his assistant Diane Levasseur and the TextielLab tried different ways of developing the tricot. This resulted in seven banners in various colours, depicting the seven statements about desire.
