The 'Kleinheid' collection by designer and product developer Veva van der Wolf was inspired by Radiolaria, tiny organisms that live in the deepest part of the sea. Radiolaria are not visible to the naked eye, but a microscope reveals their intricate structures.

Project

Radiolaria come in various shapes, from round mesh-like structures to artistic, regular and complex geometric forms. Van der Wolf based her knits on these shapes, using an ajour stitch to recreate the Radiolaria’s lacy appearance. Most of the collection was made on a hand-knitting machine. The combination of handicraft, technique and creative skills makes knitting an interesting and challenging technique for Van der Wolf.
