For his show at Amsterdam Fashion Week in 2017, fashion designer Dennis Diem experimented with embroidery on tulle. Tulle’s open-mesh structure makes it difficult to embroider, so a water-soluble backing was used as a stabiliser. In some areas, such as over the nose and mouth, Diem embroidered several layers of tulle, creating variations in the depth and colour of the design.
