Hungarian artist Eszter Révész came to the TextielLab in 2017 to update and reinterpret the weft-faced folk weaves from her country.
Inspired by the patterns and unique plasticity of the surface of weft-faced folk weaves, Révész wanted to reinterpret the tradition using 21st-century technological solutions while satisfying contemporary needs. The TextielLab offered the technology for the perfect implementation of her design as well as the professional background she needed to bring her reinterpreted tradition to life.
Seven different motifs were incorporated into the fabric. The challenge was to raise some of them to create a relief. Révész brought her own yarns from Hungary in order to maintain the integrity of the traditional colour palette.
Révész studied textile design and design management at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, where she is now an assistant lecturer. In 2018, she won the Hungarian Design Award.
