Karin de Waard's 'Dstruct' concept is aimed at companies that are keen to respond to trends, do business responsibly and have or can collect structurally similar waste. The company uses this waste to design and market a new sustainable product. The project led to a collaboration between two major brands: H&M Home and Maison Martin Margiela. The result is the 'Collection 2' product line, designed by fashion house Maison Martin Margiela from old products and deadstock from previous H&M Home collections.

Project

‘Collection 2’ consists of a leather-look room divider and two leather-look rugs that can function as both floor and wall coverings. The designs are laser cut from deadstock, using a technique that results in minimal leftover material and allows consumers to adjust the size of the final product to their liking. The room divider and rugs can also be made from other strong, flexible materials (such as denim, felt and rubber) instead of faux leather. Moreover, the designs can be adapted to make other products such as pillows, bags and clothing.
