Studio Rik ten Velden is a furniture and product design studio based in Leiden, the Netherlands. The studio’s designs are based on research and experimentation with materials and manufacturing techniques.
The studio aims to express the beauty of materials through clear-cut forms, with a focus on the relationship between the materials used. The ‘Urchin’ light collection is the result of experiments on the 3D knitting machine in the TextielLab. The 3D woollen shades are mounted on steel frames. The shades can be removed and switched for a different colour.
