2010 research sample
Materials cotton polyester

In this sample, product developer Jan Willem experimented with ajour, a technique that creates small holes in a fabric. Theoretically, a circular knitting machine cannot produce ajour fabrics because the needles have to be able to move relative to each other, which is only possible on a flat knitting machine. Using a clever technical trick, however, he was able to insert tuck stitches throughout the knit. These have a more open structure than knit stitches. Because the yarn in the background is transparent, a lace-like effect was achieved.
