With ‘Studies of Interbeing – Trance 1:1’, Taiwanese artist Pei Ying Lin aims to create a physical experience by converting pace, speed and movement at the molecular level into a perceptible level, as a way of reshaping mutually beneficial and meaningful 'human-virus' and ‘human-human’ communication.
Besides a physical experience, ‘Trance 1:1’ is a cultural attempt to encourage people to think about and adapt to our co-existence with the coronavirus. Under the motto 'viruses always live with people', the work explores ways to understand our relationship with viruses through physical experience as ritual. In addition, it allows us to 'talk' to a spiritual side of the coronavirus, liberating us from the monopoly of scientific explanations that have dominated the pandemic.
