‘Garments for Uncomfortable Social Situations’ is a series of knitwear by designer Sasha de Koninck that is linked to the wearer’s feelings. The shape of each garment corresponds with varying degrees of discomfort. One jumper features a thick knit in several places that provides comfort to the wearer when touched. A second jumper is oversized, literally allowing the wearer to withdraw from the world around them. The third jumper accentuates feelings of anxiety; it is knitted with elastic yarn and a jacquard structure, creating a waffle-like surface and tight fit. ‘Garments for Uncomfortable Social Situations’ examines what it means to feel uncomfortable and the role our clothing plays in this.
