‘Super Sole’ is based on earlier research by Suzanne Oude Hengel into making spacers for footwear on a flatbed knitting machine. For this sample, she looked at incorporating multiple spacers into a single design so that it can be adapted to the user's foot. The stiffness of the fabric, which is determined by combining different yarns – such as elastic, monofilament and polyester – can also be adjusted to suit the end user.
