This sample was knitted on the coarse knitting machine in cardigan stitch. Because the knit has a lot of give, the stitches are large and loose. At the bottom of the knit is a cuff. If the cuff were knitted with the same number of needles as the rest of the fabric, it would be much too small and tight. So, for this sample, additional needles were used to knit the cuff. The number of stitches was then reduced and a large coarse stitch was used. As a result, the cuff is the same width as the rest of the knit.
