To create a stand-alone embroidered work without a backing, this sample was made using a satin stitch on water-soluble film and 3 mm thick Puffy rubber foam. The foam was perforated repeatedly by the embroidery needle, making it easy to remove. The film was then dissolved in water, leaving an embroidered frame held together by a running stitch.
